Like many others who pre-ordered GT Sport early, I found myself out of luck to play it on release day. I shelled out $60 for the game back in May of 2016 when it was first put up for sale, excited at the prospect of another Gran Turismo. After many delays and many setbacks, a release date was finally set for October 17th, 2017. I found quite a strange issue though, as my pre-order said I couldn’t download it until December 28th.
I contacted PlayStation support on Monday evening, the day before GT Sport was set to come out. The gentleman assured me that my issue should be sorted out come midnight, the time the game was set to go live. I went to bed cautiously optimistic. Maybe I’d wake up and everything would be fine. Maybe it would be available to download and I’d have a nice game to come home from work to.
Nope. I woke up for work to find the same scenario: my game was locked until 12/28. I contacted support as soon as they opened and was told to “wait a few hours” and all would be well. I did so, but all was not well. I contacted support again and was told to “wait a few hours” again as the engineers needed time to fix this issue and push out a server update. Fine. I was at work. As long as I could play when I got home, It’d be all good.
I arrived home to find nothing had been solved. My game now said 74 days until I could download it and my patience was wearing thin. I contacted support for the last time and was told the last step was for me to factory reset my console. Like hell. This is a known issue with licence keys and I’m being given the run around by people who don’t know what they’re talking about. I demanded a refund, eventually got one, and off to Walmart I drove.
After a quick 30 minute trip, I was home with a working copy of GT Sport. I solved what PSN refused to. I’m now playing GT Sport like I should have been able to 19 hours ago with absolutely no thanks to Sony. Fuck you, PSN. Fuck you for screwing over the game I’ve been waiting 17 months for. Fuck you for giving me the run around while your engineers attempt to solve what should be a simple problem. I’ll never pre-order another title on your service so long as I live.
Fuck you, PlayStation.
