Destiny 2’s second DLC, Warmind, came out today. I had a chance to play the entirety of the campaign and attempt the new horde mode public event, all in under two hours. Two hours..
To say that I’m disappointed with Warmind would be an understatement. Maybe it’s because the last DLC, Curse of Osiris, put such a bad taste in my mouth. Maybe it’s because I expected more than two hours of content from this new DLC. I don’t know. What I do know is that I can buy a movie ticket for less than $20 and get more enjoyment than I did out of this DLC.
In the 90 minutes that it takes to beat the campaign missions, you’ll end up right around 345 light level. The next big thing Bungie was touting in this DLC was the new public event horde mode thing called Escalation Protocol. I attempted this event five times after completing the campaign, only to be completely destroyed before completing wave one out of seven. There’s no chance at the power level you obtain after completing the story.
After doing a bit of reading, it appears you need to be around 360 power level in order to comfortably do this new content. The sad part is, the only way to get your power level this high is to do the same shit you’ve been doing for months with this game: grind the weekly milestones. No, Bungie couldn’t have scaled the waves of this new event to go up based on power level, they had to gate the entire event behind a level you need to grind for weeks to attain.
So I’m back to where I was post Curse of Osiris. I’ll be logging in for around an hour each week to do the milestones, hope I get some gear I can use, and then logging out. It seems fucking bananas to me that Bungie would choose to gate such a highly advertised feature behind a stupid luck-based grind like this. I wanted to hop in and have some fun, but nope. 90 minutes of content is all I get for now.
Fuck this game. How is Bungie still in business?
Edit: Oh and it gets even better! Heroic strikes are now not only harder than the raid, but they only offer you level 340 gear… for a recommended 350 activity. Jesus christ.
