Scientists have discovered a new kind of nova: the kilonova. Formed by the merging of two neutron stars, this event is 1,000 times brighter than a regular supernova. These kilonovas were only theoretical until this one was spotted on August 17th. — more
NASA provided a cool new perspective on the eclipse today with this short clip. This is a clip taken aboard the NOAA Deep Space Climate Observatory and shows the shadow of the moon passing across North America. Most stuff you see if taken looking at the sun, so this neat view is refreshing. — more

The Cassini spacecraft has just recently sent us back some wonderful new photos of Saturn. While passing between the planet and it’s rings, the small craft came within 1900 miles of the cloud tops – the closest we’ve ever been to the gas giant. — more
